Wandering around Doha, the Qatari capital, the best place to head is the crescent-shaped Corniche, where you look over the sparkling sea in one direction, and gaze over town to the desert in the other. The pearling town of Al Wakra is worth a visit for its old fort and maritime museum. Al Zubara hosts many important archaeological remains. The desert interior offers scenery like no other, while Al-Jassasiya is home to prehistoric sites and a fantastic beach. Admire the Arabian horses at the Equestrian Club and maybe catch a race, while the national symbol, the oryx, can be found in large numbers at the Shahaniya Farm.
As Qatar s nearly surrounded by water, diving and snorkelling are high on the agenda, as are sailing and other water sports. Take a dhow cruise to enjoy the sunset colours from the sea. Just off Doha, Palm Tree Island provides a host of water sports facilities, a well as great beaches, family amenities, restaurants and cafes. Go off on safari over the precipitous desert dunes to the inland sea for a lunchtime swim. For the golfer, the Doha Golf Club provides a championship course, while Mesaiseed also has tennis courts and a pool.
Resorts provide top-class international cuisine. Outside, Doha contains many fine Middle-Eastern eateries and masses of cafes to relax in. For a good view, try the Bandar complex down at the harbour. Bars and nightclubs are strictly hotel-only, but that doesn¿t stop them being top-class establishments.
