Located on an island in Northern Norway, and surrounded on all sides by mountains and islands, a holiday to Tromso is bound to be anything but dull. The Artic Cathedral is one of the most famous attractions in Tromso, with stunning architecture that reflects the nature and culture in Arctic regions. The Polar Museum is also worth a visit, as it depicts the city's life and its history of sea fishing and the starting point for Arctic explorations.
On a short break to Norway take the cable car to Mount Storsteinen, it affords spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes, particularly as the sun is setting. Those on a family holiday to Tromso will enjoy Polaria, a cultural sea life centre which features arctic wildlife and live seals.
Shopping in Tromso is varied and centres on the city's home-made products, whether it be paintings in the many galleries or locally produced food and crafts.
Whilst shopping is fairly sparse, nightlife certainly is not. There are many bars and pubs, a handful of nightclubs and live music venues and an abundance of restaurants serving fresh seafood. Surprisingly a couple of Thai restaurants and an American steakhouse also make an appearance.
