Holidays to Ouarzazate

Ouarzazate is called "The Door of the Desert" and is a city in southern Morocco. The origin of its name is "without noise" but it's proving to be a popular new destination for family holidays - set in the middle of the desert sands it is nonetheless a mature and sophisticated resort.

There is great range of hotels - hospitality is crucial to the Moroccan culture and you will find it here in some very luxurious properties.

You may find the landscape eerily familiar - were you a desert dweller in a previous life? More likely you have seen the dunes and mountains featuring in the backdrops of many famous movies - Ouarzazate hosts one of the largest movie studios in the world, Atlas Studios. `Gladiator` and, more recently, `Babel` were filmed here.

But it's not all 5 star hotels and Hollywood here - it has two Kasbahs that are recognized by Unesco as heritage sites, and many excursions into the Sahara start from the city. On your must see list is the breathtaking Todra Gorge - the drive will take you through palm, almond and pomegranate groves and past some remote villages before entering the mouth of the gorge, a canyon 1,000 ft high, cut into the pink and green walls of the Atlas mountains.
