Lying in the middle of the Indian Ocean's warm azure waters is the unique island nation of the Maldives. 

Situated right on the equator, the sun always shines on around 1,190 islands that make up the Maldives, each surrounded by their own little reef. Over 80 of the islands have been developed into resorts, every one with a different atmosphere, but all with a wonderfully unhurried pace of life. 

With amazing palm-fringed beaches, blue lagoons, clear warm water, coral reefs and laid back atmosphere, there's nowhere more magical than the Maldives. Step out of your room onto a wonderful, almost deserted, white sandy beach; take a swim in the clearest turquoise seas, or dive down to Asia's finest underwater sites.

-Wooden Lacquer Ware - The most distinctive of the Maldivian handicrafts these elegant pieces are, acquired in strands of red, black and yellow resin and delicately carved with ornate flowery patterns. 


 
When to go:  The dry season is between December and April. It's still warm between May and November but the humidity is higher and there is more chance of rain.
