Only the fit can honestly attempt to stroll the length of Alcudia's fine beach - at 7 kilometres in length, you'll be amply rewarded with equal parts solitude, stunning scenery and sun-worshippers. It's at the resort's promenade that you'll find the sand backed with restaurants, bars and cafes serving the freshest paellas, seafood and grills - washed down, perhaps with a cool beer or smoothie. Aludia's a health-conscious resort, with lots of watersports, cycling opportunities and sports clubs taking advantage of the favourable climate and easy access to the island's great outdoors. That said, the reward for all this virtuous living is a nightlife which positively pulsates until the early hours, though with non of the wild abandon of, say, Magalluf or the larger resorts of the south. 

Package holidays to Alcudia offer a glimpse of the island before the hotels arrived. The old town, dating back to 1300, was settled originally by the Romans, who made Alcudia the original capital. Today's old town is a couple of kilometres from the holiday resort's centre, which, naturally is closer to the coast. The resort, at the western edge of the Bay of Alcudia, features a pleasant port area, with bars and fish restaurants aplenty - Porte D'Alcudia, the old fishing village might not look much like it did, but it's a great place to head for leisurely evenings, with its sidestreets lined with tempting gift shops and genuinely friendly bars, both offering great value. That's the other thing about this place - despite its popularity, cheap holidays to Alcudia allow us all to enjoy this ancient capital with a modern welcome.
