From the sublime to the absurd (Horns and Antlers Museum, anyone?), Latvia is filled with beauty and charm and is fast becoming a popular tourist resort. From the winding cobbled streets of Riga to the picturesque woods of Sigulda, a holiday to Latvia will delight all ages.
There are several theatres in Latvia which deserve a visit, including the National Opera House which offers guided tours, and the Russian Drama Theatre, steeped in history and regimental architecture. There are also lots of opportunities for outdoor pursuits whilst on holiday in Latvia, including horse riding, hunting, fishing, exploring one of the many National Parks and extensive cycling routes.
Food and drink is taken very seriously in Latvia, and a respect for some of the more rustic produce is encouraged in its young. Bread, in particular is very important to the country, and there is even a Bread Museum which teaches the art of making bread and its history. Because of this love of food you can expect to be well fed with hearty locally-grown produce in any of the restaurants in the country; smoked fish, honey, wild berries and freshly caught crayfish are specialities. Beer is also a favourite tipple in this country, so those who enjoy a good pint whilst on holiday will definitely appreciate Latvia.
