Marari, also known as "Mararikulam", is a sleepy fishing village turned sleepy holiday resort - life here goes on pretty much as it did when this slice of Indian coast was way beyond the reach of international tourists.
Days on Marari beach still follow the same routine - in the early morning, fishermen set off in their rudimentary vessels to bring in the daily catch, or perhaps launch nets from the sands. In the late afternoon, their wares are displayed on the beach for restaurant owners, or tourists to buy - possibly to grill on a beach barbeque, or add to a wonderful fish curry.
Marari offers endless miles of superb sand beaches backed by swaying palms, virgin forest and spice plantations. Kerala's stunning backwaters, where houseboats ply you silently into the green heart of the state, are just a short cruise away.
In resort, Ayurvedic centres offer total bliss- natural oils, massage and meditation set your soul free. For the rest of your course of treatment, we recommend day after day stretched out on Marari's fabulous beach, perhaps with the addition of a bazaar or two, a friendly beach bar and, of course, an invigorating fish curry.
Spend a day in Cochi, Kerala's likeable commercial centre, for more sightseeing, shopping and spice-markets and return to your hotel, to spend the rest of your holiday soaking up the peace and tranquillity unique to this blissful beach resort.
