Holidays to Chowara

Chowara, just nine kilometres south of lively Kovalam, is a bright, wide stretch of sand. Relatively peaceful, Chowara beach is set at the foot of Chowara Hill - a great vantage point to take in the wide sweep of this fabulous emerald bay. Along the crest of the hill you'll find Chowara's selection of first class hotels. Here, too, are some of the region's very best Ayurvedic resorts - Somatheeram and Manaltheeram.

There are no beach bars or other facilities at Chowara, making this resort a self contained, peaceful haven where entertainment is hotel based, and days are spent on the wonderful golden beach.

For more action, auto rickshaws or taxis can whisk you into Kovalam for around a fiver. Worth it, if you want to shop at Kovalam's markets, or try your hand at more energetic watersports.

Back in your Keralan hideaway you can enjoy snorkelling in the wonderfully clear waters, roaming up Chowara hill with its traditionally designed cottages and salons (don't forget your binoculars if you want to enjoy the rich bird life around here) or booking an Ayurvedic massage to rid your body of all that tension you never knew you were storing. Then, suitably relaxed, you can dress for dinner at your hotel restaurant overlooking the moonlit waters of the Arabian Sea.
