Aqaba is a thriving town and beach resort with outstanding offshore coral reefs that provide excellent snorkelling opportunities.  

Founded over 5,000 years ago, by the 13th century Aqaba was a major port, and an important gateway between Europe and the Far East.  

But in the late 20th century, when travelling tourists discovered its sunny location, crystal clear waters and the dazzling multicoloured marine life living among its countless coral reefs, then Aqaba's popularity rose once again.

Subsequent recent careful developments have meant that Aqaba can now be described as, if not exactly 'lively', then positively 'bustling', and is therefore one of the most popular destinations with divers who come from all over the world to explore Aqaba's stunning underwater landscapes.  

And what's more, Aqaba's long history is never far away - archaeologists recently discovered what is believed to be remains of the oldest Christian church in the world.
