Endowed with an abundance of thermal spas and baths it is any wonder why anyone would visit Budapest for anything other than relaxation. Hard as it is to believe, there are a number of exciting activities in which you can partake in Budapest without having to wear a swimming costume.
A holiday to Budapest wouldn't be complete without a walk along the infamous River Danube which splits the city in half, one bank joined to the other by the iconic Chain Bridge. Why not take a sightseeing tour of the city which would include a trip along the embankments of the river, as well as stopping at the Opera House, Saint Stephen's Basilica and the moving Dohány utca Synagogue which includes a metallic weeping willow tree in memory of those who died in the Holocaust.
Margaret Island is a must visit for those on a family holiday in Budapest. There are family bikes for rent, an outdoor swimming complex and theatre, and of course a thermal spa.
When it comes to shopping, Budapest has something to offer everyone, from the Ecseri Flea Market to the antiques shops of the Falk Miksa utca. As for cuisine, the most famous staple of the Hungarian diet is goulash, although goose liver and fresh water fish dishes are also specialities.
The nightlife when on holiday in Budapest is suprisingly varied and entertaining, in the form of casinos, cabaret clubs and bars, in addition to the more cultural opera and ballet productions showcased year round.
