Situated in the Northwest of Europe between Belgium, Germany and the North Sea is Holland. Even though the official name is The Netherlands, Holland is the country's common name and is home to famous painters Rembrandt, van Gogh, Frans Hals and Johannes Vermeer. Amsterdam is the country's capital and is a perfect place for anyone wanting to take a short city break to Holland. 

Apart from some small hills in southeast, Holland is geographically low-lying. The only way that Holland didn't get flooded in previous years, is by the continuous drainage by the big Dutch windmills. The windmills and painters are not the only famous Dutch associations. When thinking of Holland, you also automatically think clogs, bicycles and canals - and you would be right! 

Taking a trip along the picturesque canals is probably the best way to take everything in whilst on holiday in Holland. The connecting canals, along with famous rivers such as the Scheldt, Maas and Rhine, all form a very effective inland waterway system. From the laid back friendly atmosphere to top quality cuisine, visitors can't help returning to Holland year on year.
