Greener, more rural and much smaller than neighbouring Malta, life on Gozo moves at a leisurely pace. In winter and spring, the Island is covered with flowering herbs and lush crops. In summer, it's awash with oleander and endless geraniums. Gozo's rugged landscape and spectacular coastline beg to be explored and the views across the Mediterranean are simply spectacular. There are numerous rocky inlets and lovely sandy beaches where sun worshippers can relax and tan.
The sea around Gozo is crystal clear and Gozo has some of the Mediterranean's best dive sites. It also has a nightlife and cultural calendar all of its own, as well as some great restaurants. Gozo is an incredibly unspoilt, hidden gem of an island. It's perfect for those who want to unwind in a timeless destination where crowds, rushing and stress are unheard of.
Famous for:
- The island of Comino, thick with wild herbs (particularly cumin), lies just of Gozo's shores and is largely unpopulated.
- Gozo is believed to be the Calypso isle of Homer's ancient epic poem Odyssey
