Holidays to Kotu Beach

The northern resort of Kotu Beach is, for many, The Gambia's jewel beach resort. It's certainly an attractive mix of soft sands, warm waters, good accommodation and great restaurants. 

The beach itself is a long stretch of powder white sands, shelving gently into the shimmering cobalt waters of the Atlantic. Watersports are easily accessible, as are sunbeds, should you just wish to stretch out. Beach bums sell juice, sun hats, and everything you could possibly imagine - don't worry if you're not interested, they'll simply walk on by. 

Kotu beach restaurants are superb. Real Gambian cooking offers benechin stews (chicken or fish with rice) with groundnut sauce, while, at night, the Tam Tam, Paradise Beach Bar and Jokers are all great venues offering perfect sundowners, good entertainment and relaxing evenings either indoors or outside on their patios overlooking the ocean. 

Ideally placed to enjoy the best excursions The Gambia has to offer, Kotu is great for those looking to experience this beguiling country for the first time. 

For an experience with a real Gambian twist, you simply must visit Kachikaly pool - a silent watering hole surrounded by lazy, grinning crocodiles where, local custom has it, a quick dip will do wonders for your fertility. And possibly for the croc's digestion! 

Kotu's beachfront has been designed with care and attention, with lots of greenery, pleasant low-rise, thatched buildings and sparkling swimming pools. There's a good craft market in town, and plenty of stalls selling excellent souvenirs. To the east of here, Kotu Creek is a wetland of swamps and streams, where you'll easily find this country's most colourful inhabitants - the birdlife of west Africa.
