Holidays to Kissimmee Area

Once a peaceful backwater south of Orlando where nothing much happened, and executives came to retire, quietly tending their picket-fenced gardens and having the occasional barbeque, Kissimmee's proximity to the rapidly developing theme parks and visitor attractions of central Florida made this attractive community a natural for families looking for thrilling days at Walt Disney's place, and comfortable nights in generously designed villas or modern hotels, away from the bright lights and hoopla of International Drive. 

The city (for that's what Kissimmee is, lest you thought it was just a suburb of Orlando) has a fair amount of character, with Main Street and Broadway recently spruced up and the pedestrianised Toho Square complex where the good people of the Kissimmee Main Street Association host regular events.

And, keeping an eye on the tourist dollar, the city's not been slow to develop a few attractions of its own. Old Town, out on Highway 192 is a shopping, eating and entertainment complex worth a look, while the historic downtown offers a winning mix of antique shops, great southern cooking in a number of excellent restaurants and a range of fantastic murals by local artist Tom Capella.

It's a world away from the neon and queues of theme park Florida, but all the more charming for it.
