Holidays to Jibacoa

Less than an hour's drive from Havana, Jibacoa couldn't be further away from the pulse and drama of the capital.

The resort's stunning beach, also known as Playa Amarillo, is situated on the north coast, in the Havana Province - so conveniently situated is it to the capital that shopping trips and night-time excursions are easily arranged. 

To the landward side, a range of small, richly vegetated hills rise up like a curtain, protecting the coast, and creating a calm microclimate where a series of coves and inlets offer all the privacy and suntraps you could wish for. 

And the beaches here really are something special - even for Cuba's high standards. A shelf of calm, shallow waters, stretching for hundreds of meters, is a result of the offshore coral reef - making Jibacoa ideal for snorkelling the afternoon away (don't forget to keep a t-shirt on if you're at sea too long. And with underwater life this exciting, you could easily forget how long you've been playing at Jacques Cousteau). 

By night, Jibacoa's clean streets and wide promenade are home to inviting bars where local musicians entertain a friendly, mixed group of travellers - many Canadians - intent on nothing more hair raising than enjoying a good meal, a drink or two and, perhaps, a brave stab at Salsa! But don't forget, the Tropicana club - Havana's do-before-you-die open-air floorshow, is just an hour's taxi ride away. Don't say we didn't warn you.
