Surrounded by olive groves this small beach resort is perfect for those looking for sunshine and relaxation.

Halfway down Corfu's west coast, reached by a narrow mountain road that winds through a small gorge, lies a beautiful bay with a tiny offshore islet and a mile-long sandy beach surrounded by cliffs diving headlong into the azure sea.

On the glorious beach you can hire parasols, sun loungers and pedaloes, and in high season water-skiing is available. Aghios Gordios is an ever-expanding resort, with a delightful selection of little villas and apartments mixed with larger complexes, plus a selection of traditional tavernas, eateries and even a small disco.

Most days here are spent working up a tan on the beautiful beach. If you fancy some gentle exercise other than swimming, this is magnificent hill-walking country, with rich green forests of pine and cypress, full of trilling cicadas and the nose-tingling scents of wild oregano and sage.

Hire a car and explore Corfu, or simply lie back and recharge the batteries - Aghios Gordios is all about making your own amusement at your own pace in a lovely setting. The stunning area of Paleocastritsa, with its sheltered coves and turquoise sea is only a short drive away.
