Yalong Bay
The most pristine beach on Hainan, Yalong Bay is a stunning stretch of pure white sand, sloping into the water against a backdrop of palm trees and lush green hillsides. As it sits on almost the same latitude as Hawaii, it's no surprise that Yalong Bay enjoys similarly balmy temperatures and weather conditions, making it perfect for sunseekers and watersports enthusiasts. The water here is wonderfully clear, thanks in part to the area being designated a protected marine reserve, and the coral reefs and amazing tropical fish make this an unforgettable place for snorkelling and scuba diving. Alongside the beach you'll find a selection of shops and restaurants, as well as a museum and a butterfly garden. If you want to explore further you may also be tempted by the championship golf courses, hot springs, and great walks in the surrounding area. Following the bustle of Beijing, Yalong Bay is the perfect retreat.
Sanya Bay & City
Sanya is located on the southern-most point of Hainan Island. Enjoying a tropical climate Sanya Bay boasts one of the longest beaches in China, in the clear, warm waters of the South China Sea. Local flavour abounds in the busy port town of Sanya City. The wharf area boasts a maze of back alleys and teahouses. The fishing docks are a hive of activity as trawlers unload their catches to be auctioned off and ferried away on the back of cycle powered rickshaws. At night Sanya's main market is an interesting place to snack on seafood, and shop around open fronted stores overflowing on to tables on the streets outside. The short stay in Beijing will enable every visitor to compare the numerous and alternative landscapes on offer in China.
