Sitting pretty between France and Holland, Belgium offers a wealth of surprises for the seasoned city breaker. The multi-lingual Belgians speak three official languages (English is an unofficial fourth) and are some of the most welcoming and friendly people in Europe. Carefree and energetic the atmosphere rubs off on you, even if you are only staying for a weekend break in Belgium.
No more than 250 miles wide you could see many cities in your short break to Belgium, take a romantic cruise down the canal in Bruges, hunt for diamonds in Antwerp or explore one of the many art galleries in Brussels. A fantastic rail network connects the whole of the country and makes navigation both simple and comfortable for passengers.
A meeting place for most of Western Europe, Belgium's history and character gives thanks to this role, the Austrians, Spanish and Dutch have all tried to lay claim to the country and traces of them can still seen in the people and architecture, encompassing the best of Europe in one unique place.
The vast array of restaurants offer incredible cuisine; some argue that on a city break in Belgium each meal seems to taste better than the last. As a city break destination Belgium has managed to keep its international sophistication off the radar surely making it perfect for a laid back short break. For such a small country Belgium has lots to offer and we didn't even mention beer and chocolate.
